Material Review Board Application (2012-2013)

Dear Colleague:

Teachers, after school program staff, nutrition and health educators, school health providers, and university staff are encouraged to apply for the 2012–2013 Material Review Board (MRB) for the California After School Resource Center (CASRC) and California Healthy Kids Resource Center (CHKRC). MRB members will evaluate preschool to grade twelve instructional materials in academic areas, behavior management, program administration, nutrition, physical activity, health and safety, and youth development for use in California schools or after school programs. MRB evaluations help us determine which instructional materials to make available via the centers’ Web sites and circulating libraries.

In reviewing the applications, highest priority will be placed on classroom or after school experience, and/or experience providing professional development for after school staff. Applicants qualified to evaluate materials in languages other than English, or for use with special populations, are especially encouraged to apply. Those planning to submit materials to CASRC or CHKRC for review are ineligible to serve on the MRB. Please note that selected MRB:

New members attend a required MRB Orientation Webinar.
Evaluate six to 15 instructional resources (curricula, audiovisual materials, training guides, etc.) using CHKRC and CASRC review forms. Materials for review will be sent to a work or home address in one or more shipments (signature required). Anticipate about one hour evaluating each item.
Return reviewed materials to CASRC and CHKRC (with return postage covered by the resource centers.)
Receive a $150 honorarium for their service.
Serve for a year.
