Description: This document presents the reading, writing, speaking, listening, and written and oral English-language arts (ELA) standards needed for students to become literate and competent communicators. Each grade level section contains guidance on curriculum and instruction, as well as the pertinent content standards. Chapters address the goals and key components of effective language arts education, assessment, universal access, and criteria for evaluating instructional materials. Appendixes offer a matrix of the ELA standards by grade and a list of instructional connections. A glossary of selected terms provides important definitions.
